THE FISHMAN INSTITUTE FOR ADULT JEWISH LEARNING and more

Established by the Fishman family in honor of Samuel Fishman, The Fishman Institute For Adult Jewish Learning is dedicated to providing adult members of the congregation with the skills and knowledge that will allow them to assume a meaningful role in the religious life of the synagogue and to incorporate Jewish values and teachings into their daily lives.

The Fishman Institute for Adult Jewish Learning presents a meaningful array of programs, diverse in both format and content, which focus on making Judaism relevant to contemporary life. Among the programs that The Fishman Institute sponsors are:

• Special lectures by Guest Scholars
• Programs dealing with topics of interest, such as spirituality and the Holocaust.
• Well-known speakers discussing the most critical issues facing Jews today
• Series of classes taught by Har Zion Clergy and Senior Staff. Some of these classes focus on synagogue skills: phonic reading of Hebrew, Siddur skills and hazzanut.
• Conversational Hebrew classes

Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah Classes

Religious School for Parents
Meets in two sessions Sunday mornings: 9:45AM - 1:00PM

• Beginners - Basic Hebrew, Jewish customs and holidays.
• Intermediate – Increase fluency skills, understanding of prayers, values and concepts and strengthen Judaic knowledge
• Advanced – Torah reading and Hebrew Ulpan

Scholar-in-Residence Weekends
Weekends of study dedicated to a single topic presented by guest scholars.

Rosh Hodesh Luncheon
An opportunity to share Shabbat lunch and study with the Rabbi following services on the first Shabbat of each Hebrew month.

Parashat Hashavuah Study Session
A lay-led discussion of the Torah portion following Shabbat services.

Tisch
Another opportunity to study with the Rabbi at breakfast following each Wednesday morning Minyan.

Lunch and Learn
Rabbi Stein teaches a series of lunchtime classes at various Center City Philadelphia locations.

Kirschner Family Conference
An annual conference devoted to issues confronting modern Jewish families.

Levitties Conference
An annual academic conference examines issues of contemporary interest.
